My devices disconnect or are not recognized on my Shadow Box

Updated

Developer Note: Both the Shadow Box and the Shadow Ghost have reached their EOL (End-of-Life) as of January 2024. You may continue to use these devices, but ongoing hardware and software support is no longer guaranteed. Read more on our blog.

The Shadow Box draws a small amount of electricity. As a result, its power supply may not be sufficient to power multiple energy-intensive devices. A low amount of power distributed to many peripherals can play a significant role in malfunctions.

TOO MANY ENERGY-INTENSIVE DEVICES

Connecting several peripherals simultaneously such as controllers, a mouse, a keyboard, a headset, a steering wheel, a hard drive, etc., can sometimes result in partial recognition of the peripherals and somewhat random disconnections.

To remedy this, using a USB hub with external power will allow you to plug in everything you need.

MY CONNECTION IS INSUFFICIENT

It is also possible that your upstream connection is insufficient or unstable. A sufficient, stable connection can ensure that all of your devices are taken into account.

In this case, try unplugging one or two devices from your Shadow Box to establish whether this diagnosis is indeed the correct one.

Certain devices such as Webcams or microphones consume more upstream data than a keyboard or mouse. Make sure you have an Upload connection minimum 30 mb/sto be able to benefit from it.

MY DEVICES ARE NOT RECOGNIZED

If your mouse or keyboard is not detected, there are some minor manipulations you can perform in order to resolve the problem.

Typically, this issue can be resolved by restarting the stream on your Shadow Box. This is the fastest and most accessible option. You can find this option in the Shadow Box launcher by simply pressing the power button.

If this still doesn't work, try plugging your peripherals into the rear ports of your Shadow Box. You can also make sure these devices work well on another computer.

It's also possible that your Shadow Box is not up to date and that the version of the device recognition system is outdated.

In this case, try turning off your Box by holding down the power button for a few seconds and then turning it back on afterwards to see if the problem persists or not.
